Healing Touch massage developed by registered nurses
Healing Touch Maui will host a two-day Healing Touch Level 1 class from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in the Garden Room at Kalama Heights at 101 Kanani Road in Kihei. The class is open to all, but preregistration is required. Tuition is $225. Registered nurses and licensed massage therapists can receive 18 continuing education credits upon completion.
Healing Touch is a “hands on,” nurturing energy-healing therapy, developed by registered nurses, involving gentle touch, according to a news release. It can be used for relaxation, to reduce pain and anxiety, and to speed the healing process. It is used in health care facilities worldwide, including hospitals and hospices. The course will include theory and hands-on practice.
Participants will have the opportunity to practice Level 1 Healing Touch techniques on others in the class as well as receive treatments from their classmates. Students will come away from the class with several techniques, as well as the basic Healing Touch sequence used as the framework for every Healing Touch session.
Sarah Porter, a registered nurse and certified Healing Touch practitioner/instructor, will conduct the training. With a background in mental health and holistic nursing, the Maui resident has taught and practiced nursing for 30 years. She conducts Level 1 workshops in Japan, on Kauai, and on Maui.
