Maui students on map at State Geography Bee

Braiden Pa’a, an 8th-grade student at Samuel E. Kalama Intermediate School, placed third at the State Geography Bee held April 5 at the Neil Blaisdell Center on Oahu. Pa’a competed against 47 other students from around the state for a chance to win a $25,000 college scholarship. He is the son of Edward and Kelly Pa’a of Haiku.

Pa’a answered all his first-round questions correctly to reach the finals. Sarah Fusato of Kula Elementary was also among the 10 finalists.

Other Maui contestants were Francis Bui of Lahaina Intermediate School, Luke Gonzalez of Doris Todd Memorial Christian School, Kaelyn Leval of Emmanuel Lutheran School and Elizabeth O’Connor of St. Anthony Junior Senior High School.
