Poet visits students

Brandy Nalani McDougall, author of a collection of poetry titled “The Salt-Wind: Ka Makani Pa’akai,” shared her art with students at Kamehameha Schools Maui on March 15.

The Upcountry native met with students who have been studying her work, which includes pieces that focus on her island home of Maui.

She shared background information on Pacific poetry with students, as well as her experiences as a writer.

A graduate of the University of Oregon with a master’s degree in Poetry, McDougall is a professor of indigenous studies at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
