Visitor Industry Charity Walk participation open to all

The 35th annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk is seeking walkers for this year’s event.

Proceeds benefit hundreds of local charities, with the money raised staying on each island.

Last year more than 12,000 walkers statewide raised a record-breaking $1,455,614.

“The Charity Walk brings our industry together in a spirit of giving,” said Julie Arigo, general manager of the Waikiki Parc Hotel and statewide chairwoman of the 2013 Hawaii Lodging and Tourism Association Visitor Industry Charity Walk. “It’s a wonderful event, truly inspiring and fun, a happy day spent with friends raising funds to benefit every one of our island communities.”

Under the theme “Put Your Best Slippah Forward,” the Charity Walk will take place by island on the following dates:

* Molokai and Lanai on May 4.

* Maui, Kauai and Hawaii Island on May 11.

* Oahu on May 18.

Since its inception in 1978, the Charity Walk has raised more than $24.7 million for Hawaii’s charities such as Aloha Independent Living, Alzheimer’s Association, Aloha Chapter, Hawaii Opera Theater, Honolulu Zoological Society, Moanalua Gardens Foundation, Special Olympics Hawaii and the Visitor Aloha Society of Hawaii.

Event participation is open to all, not just lodging industry employees. For more information and walker applications, visit and
