9 scholarships awarded

Nine Maui County high school graduating seniors received scholarships from the Wailea Community Association totaling $18,000.

A reception was held in their honor at Longhi’s Restaurant in The Shops at Wailea on April 24.

The winners, their high schools and the colleges they will be attending in the fall follow: Mia Aina, Hana High, University of San Diego; Kaitlin Lopez, St. Anthony, University of Hawaii at Manoa; Sarina Kong, Kamehameha Schools Maui, Santa Clara University; Steffi Molina, Maui High, University of Washington; Maricar Daoang, Maui High, University of Hawaii at Manoa; Angelo Sanakli, Maui High, Syracuse University; Leslie Garo, Lahainaluna High, University of California, Irvine; Raeann Mukini, Maui High, University of Hawaii-Hilo; Michael Kikukawa, Molokai High, Harvard University.

Once again this year, the WCA’s Community Relations Committee reviewed numerous applications for the annual scholarship program, which offers Maui County’s high school seniors an opportunity for financial assistance with their college education.

The selection is based on academic transcripts, letters of recommendation, school-related awards, community service and personal statements from the students about their educational plans and career and personal goals.
