Bookstore seeks friendly volunteers to ring up purchases, stock shelves
Books are moving off the shelves rapidly, with more than 28,000 sold by the Maui Friends of the Library bookstore in Queen Ka’ahamanu Center since its opening last fall, but the group is badly in need of volunteer booksellers, said co-manager Joyce Mandracken.
Managers are looking for volunteers who will commit to three hours a week or more to ring up purchases or shelve incoming books. Fresh shipments of used books collected from throughout the island are brought in daily.
“We pride ourselves on having a friendly atmosphere,” Mandracken noted. “Volunteering in a bookstore is fun and an easy way to meet new people, be they fellow workers or customers.”
Store hours are 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays. More information on volunteering can be obtained by calling Mandracken during store hours at 877-2509.
