Clubs help raise funds for dialysis center in India

The Rotary Club of Wailuku recently teamed with other Rotary Clubs in Hawaii to support the Rotary Club of Bangalore DownTown to upgrade the Dialysis Centre of Rotary Bangalore DownTown at the PD Hinduja Sindhi Hospital in India.

The Dialysis Centre was set up in 2000 as a standalone clinic to meet the needs of renal failure patients in Bangalore; it later was relocated to its current site at the PD Hindhuja Sindhi Hospital.

Now in its 10th year of operation at that location, more than 40,000 dialysis treatments have been performed but there is greater demand, so the Rotary Club of Bangalore DownTown sought a grant from The Rotary Foundation to fund the expansion.

Through personal contacts of members of the Rotary Club of Wailuku, support and matching grant funds were provided by 10 Rotary Clubs in Hawaii to assist in this expansion. The total grant amount was for $52,750 which provides for an additional six dialysis machines.

Maui clubs that helped to support this grant are Rotary Club of Wailuku, Rotary Club of Kahului, Rotary Club of Kihei-Wailea, Rotary Club of Kihei Sunrise, Rotary Club of Lahaina, Rotary Club of Maui, Rotary Club of Upcountry and Rotary Club of Valley Isle Sunset.
