Emmanuel Lutheran students win awards

Tristen Matsuura, a 4th-grader at Emmanuel Lutheran School, took first place in the annual Maui Association for Family and Community Education’s Character Counts essay and artwork contest.

Two other students, Jake Takaesu and Jadelyn Keomaka, also 4th-graders at Emmanuel Lutheran, received second- and third-place awards, respectively.

All students received monetary awards and certificates.

MAFCE sponsors the contest for public and private school 4th-graders with the goal of helping them strive for excellence and creativity in reading, writing and drawing skills.

This year’s character word was “Trustworthiness.”
