Maui 5th-grader gets honorable mention in national art contest
Kaleigh Trice, a 5th-grader at Kamalii Elementary School in Kihei, received honorable mention in the elementary category for her entry in the 4th annual First Amendment Cartoon Contest.
This is a national contest held by Courts in the Classroom, a collaboration of the Judicial Branch of California and the Constitutional Rights Foundation.
Students were asked to create a cartoon depicting the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Trice said, “I drew the Freedom of Speech by showing animals asking us to care for them and protect their habitats by not polluting and saving trees.”
Her teacher, Shannon Tefft said, “I am so proud of Kaleigh for all her hard work and for her firm understanding of the First Amendment of the Constitution.”
