Maui youth orchestra will perform Sunday

The Maui Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, along with special guest ensemble the Maui Flute Choir, will present its annual Spring Concert at 3 p.m. Sunday in the H.P. Baldwin Auditorium.

The free concert will feature more than 25 student musicians in grades 9-12 on strings, woodwind, brass and percussion instruments, as well as guest artists Richard Tadaki, Sue Nakama, Stephen Rodrigues, Tami Saito, Julius Galanto and Savannah Hoke. The students represent nine different schools.

The philharmonic orchestra, under the direction of Lance Jo, will perform the following selections: “Hungarian Dance No. 5” by J. Brahms; “Canon” by J. Pachelbel; “Procession of the Sardar” by M. Ippolitov-Ivanov; “James Bond Medley,” arranged by V. Lopez; “The Maui Waltz” by B. Nelson; “Salute to Ol’ Blue Eyes,” arranged by J. Moss; and “Selections from Les Miserables” by C-M Schonberg.

The Maui Flute Choir, under the direction of Peggy Schecter, will perform “Cantique de Jean Racine Gabriel Faure,” arranged by T. Wye; “Tambourin Franscois” by J. Gossec; “Jamaican Rhapsody,” arranged by J. Nowak; “Little Red Monkey” by J. Jordan; and “London Trio #1” by F.J. Haydn.
