Nominations for the Palaka Award are being accepted
The Rotary Club of Kahului is accepting nominations for the 2013 Palaka Award, presented to a longtime and exceptional volunteer with a Maui County nonprofit organization.
The honor is awarded every year to the leader of a nonprofit organization who has demonstrated outstanding dedication to volunteer service and exemplified the Rotary Club’s motto of “Service Above Self.”
The nominee must have a minimum seven years of service and demonstrate a significant and enduring impact for both the nonprofit organization and the community.
The winner of the award will be announced at a luncheon ceremony, to be hosted by the Rotary Club and the Alexander & Baldwin Foundation, at noon Aug. 2 in the Kamehameha Golf Club’s Waikapu Room. A golf ball drop fundraiser is planned prior to the awards luncheon; proceeds will go to the Michael H. Lyons II Memorial Scholarship Fund, which provides college scholarships for exceptional Maui youth.
The deadline for nominations is June 30.
