Nominations for the 2013 Palaka Award are open and may be filed online at

The award for long-term service honors an outstanding Maui County nonprofit organization leader from a field of nominated finalists.

The nominations deadline is June 30.

The 2013 honorees and finalists are selected by a committee of Kahului Rotary members.

The award will be presented by the Rotary Club of Kahului on Aug. 2 at The King Kamehameha Golf Club during an annual luncheon ceremony benefiting the Michael H. Lyons II Memorial Scholarship Fund.

A fundraising golf ball drop is planned prior to the awards luncheon.

Information on event sponsorship, advance reservations for tickets or tables, as well as golf ball ticket sales via Kahului Rotary club members is available on the website.

The luncheon was sold out in advance the last two years.

In 2011, the Palaka Award was presented to Helen Nielsen of Maui Land Trust. The 2012 recipient was Dr. George Martin, a volunteer for the Carden Academy of Maui.
