Maui High School will hold its “Gala of the Century,” an outdoor event featuring food, music, prizes and school memories honoring the school’s birthday, fronting the campus in Kahului on Oct. 13.
A reduced general admission ticket price of $25 will be offered until Friday.
The cost includes pupu, dinner and one entry into a door prize drawing.
After Friday, tickets will be $35, or $50 at the door, subject to availability.
A keiki meal ticket is available for those 12 and under at $15. It includes admission and dinner only.
The celebration from 3 to 7 p.m. is set at the beginning of Homecoming Week; special events are planned for the school’s centennial celebration.
Entertainment will include Maui High alumni, including host Valerie Toro from the class of 1987, who is on-air personality “Sistah Val” and music director for KPOA 93.5 FM; along with band Nuff Sedd, whose member Joshua Kahula is a 1995 graduate of Maui High.
The band Dementia, made up of classmates from 1969 who play ’60s and ’70s rock, will perform; as will Unified Soul, with members Josh Johnson (Class of 1996) and Lahela Rapozo (Class of 1998); and the group The Sapphires & Friends, which includes Class of 1965’s Evan Asato.
The event is one of many celebrating the 100th birthday of Maui High School, which opened in September 1913. There is also a variety of centennial memorabilia on sale online.
