American Savings Bank employees on Maui participate in volunteer program

American Savings Bank employees on Maui, and American Savings Bank’s Chief Administrative Officer Beth Whitehead, helped with landscaping efforts at Malama Family Recovery Center’s Therapeutic Living and Sober Living Program facilities in Kahului on June 29.

The project was part of the bank’s Seeds of Service program, which is an annual bankwide initiative to help the company’s employees volunteer for schools and community groups.

Malama Family Recovery Center is a nonprofit that provides comprehensive substance abuse and mental health services for women and children through education, prevention, treatment and referral in a safe environment.

It is the only agency on Maui that provides gender-specific services, with priority given to pregnant and parenting women.

Malama Family Recovery Center recently added American Savings Bank First Vice President/Regional Executive Chuck Dando Jr. to its board of directors.

This project added to the more than 9,500 volunteer hours that American Savings Bank employees have donated on Oahu, the Big Island, Maui, Molokai and Kauai since the Seeds of Service program launched in 2005, according to a news release.
