Club will be beneficiary of improvement project, award

The Rotary Club of Kahului, and friends and members of the Lanakila Club, will participate in a “Market Makeover” at Central Maui Lanakila Clubhouse on July 27. The Lanakila Club is a nonprofit organization that serves adults living with mental Illness. It is located at 1977 Main St. in Wailuku.

The work will involve the construction and installation of shelves, clearing a display area, assembly of display shelves for the market, and preparation of the area for painting.

This makeover will transform a section of the Lanakila Clubhouse by creating a market that will sell aquaponically grown produce, handmade goods created by the members, and create training and employment services and opportunities for the clubhouse members.

The project is being coordinated by the Rotary Club of Kahului with the participation of members of several other Maui Rotary clubs.

It is being undertaken as part of the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Friends Project and Award of $10,000 to further the nonprofit’s mission.

Presentation of the grant award from the Harry & Jeanette Weinburg Foundation will take place at the Maui Tropical Plantation during a special luncheon July 29.
