Maui area coordinator receives Emergency Manager Award

Gail Miyahira has received the 2013 Emergency Manager Award of Hawaii from the Healthcare Association of Hawaii’s Awards and Scholarships Program, which recognizes excellence in direct care and health care leadership.

She will be honored with other award recipients at a Sept. 7 dinner on Oahu.

Miyahira is the emergency management coordinator for the Hawaii Health Systems Corp. Maui Region (Maui Memorial Medical Center, Kula Hospital and Lanai Community Hospital) and is also the Healthcare Association of Hawaii Maui area coordinator.

As emergency management coordinator she is responsible for developing, planning, evaluating and maintaining the overall emergency/disaster preparedness response and recovery program for the Maui region.

“Gail is a tremendous asset to the Maui region for her attention to detail and her ability to plan appropriately for disasters and other emergencies,” said Wesley Lo, Maui region chief executive officer. “She is instrumental to us, and this award is a reflection of her diligence and capabilities.”

As the Healthcare Association of Hawaii Maui area coordinator, Miyahira’s duties include serving as liaison between Healthcare Association of Hawaii, Maui Civil Defense and the Maui District Health Office, supporting Hospital Preparedness Program activities and coordinating Healthcare Association of Hawaii emergency operations from the Maui County Emergency Operations Center.
