Sanctuary sponsors Wakea Po as intern

The NOAA Office of National Marine Sanctuaries Pacific Islands Region is sponsoring Wakea Po for an internship this summer.

Po, a junior at the University of Hawaii Maui College majoring in marine science, will be working with NOAA scientist Cheryl Woodley, who will be visiting Maui this summer to conduct water-quality tests on Maui’s shoreline.

In addition, Po will use his new skills to work with Damian Cie from UH-MC conducting testing on the waters of the Ko’ie’ie Fishpond, which is adjacent to the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary.

Po graduated from Kihei Charter School. He plans to transfer to UH-Hilo.
