Japanese Cultural Society of Maui awards scholarships

The Japanese Cultural Society of Maui recently presented $1,000 scholarships to Baldwin High School graduate Stacie Cuadro and King Kekaulike High School graduate Anna Gragas.

Cuadro, the daughter of Nestor and Kim Cuadro, is attending Linfield College in McMinnville, Ore. She plans to major in history or political science and minor in Japanese.

Gragas, the daughter of Patrick and April Gragas, is attending Chapman University in Orange, Calif. She is undecided on a major.

The JCS Maui Scholarship is an annual scholarship. Selection criteria include the student’s interest in perpetuating the Japanese culture, how his or her education will assist in perpetuating the Japanese culture, and the student’s present and past involvement in Japanese organizations, as well as academics and community service participation.
