Scholarship awarded to MHS graduate
A $1,200 college scholarship has been awarded to Angelo Sanakli by the Italian American Club of Maui. Russ Taft, scholarship chairperson, presented the award to Maui High School graduating senior Angelo Sanakli at the annual awards night in May.
Sanakli and his parents were guests at the club’s June potluck meeting and had the opportunity to meet and be congratulated by the members. He shared his educational plans and gave a presentation about his scholarship essay topic, “How the Italian culture or persons of Italian ethnicity have influence the American experience.” He will be leaving Maui this month to attend Syracuse University in New York.
The mission of the Italian American Club of Maui is to promote the Italian culture through fellowship, good food and friendship.
The club meets monthly and everyone is welcomed; they need not be of Italian heritage to join.
