Japanese calligraphy demonstration at library
The Kihei Public Library will offer a program titled “The Art of Japanese Calligraphy” at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the children’s section.
Back by popular demand, Mitsuyo St. Klair, an internationally educated, multicultural and multimedia artist, will conduct a hands-on demonstration of Japanese calligraphy. St. Klair, who resides on Maui, will present a brief overview of the history behind the art form and the traditional methods and tools used.
In addition, she will demonstrate how to write the Japanese character for “love” and participants will have the opportunity to create their own calligraphy keepsake.
All materials will be provided.
The program is suitable for ages 12 and older.
Registration is required. Call the library at 875-6833 to register.
All children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Contact the library as soon as possible if a sign language interpreter or other special accommodation is needed for this programs.
