Lt. Governor will help at Habitat for Humanity Maui’s Build-a-thon
Lt. Gov. Shan Tsutsui will join volunteers in renovating a home at 430 One St. in Kahului during Habitat for Humanity Maui’s seventh annual Build-a-thon.
Tsutsui will open Habitat’s event Friday morning and then get his hands dirty alongside volunteers who signed up to help a Maui family.
Mayor Alan Arakawa will help wrap up the event Saturday afternoon when he presents a proclamation about Habitat for Humanity’s statewide Build-a-thon, which raises awareness about substandard housing and raises funds to help more families in need.
“We are so pleased to have Lieutenant Governor Tsutsui at our Build-a-thon. The family is honored and humbled to have him helping them,” said Sherri Dodson, executive director of Habitat for Humanity Maui. “The mayor has been a longtime supporter of Habitat and worked on several of our build sites. It will be nice to have him back.”
Hundreds of volunteers statewide will work on Habitat for Humanity projects. There are seven affiliates statewide and each is doing a special project with the goal of helping a family in need.
Work at the Kahului site will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. People interested in volunteering are asked to arrive at 8:30 a.m. to register.
