Volunteers sought for crater service project
The Friends of Haleakala National Park is seeking volunteers for a service project in Haleakala Crater Oct. 12 to 14. Participants will hike into the crater and stay free in Kapalaoa Cabin, working on protection of native plants while also enjoying the beauty of the crater wilderness in Haleakala National Park.
The park entrance and cabin fees are waived for participants doing service work with the Friends of Haleakala National Park. A maximum of 12 people can be accommodated on each trip, and volunteers must be able to hike in and out of the crater carrying their personal items including a sleeping bag as well as a share of the food.
Visit www.fhnp.org to register and learn more about the service trips and the group’s mission to preserve and protect Haleakala National Park. Those interested in participating can contact the leader by calling 669-8385.
