Wayfinding lecture under the stars at Kamehameha Schools Maui
A lecture about ancient Hawaiian wayfinding and the Hokule’a will be presented on Tuesday at the Kamehameha Schools Maui campus in Pukalani.
The evening will begin with light refreshments at 6 p.m. in the high school dining hall. The lecture will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a presentation by Pa’aanakala Baybayan, a crew member on both the Hokule’a and Mo’olele.
Attendees will assemble under the stars to learn how Hokule’a’s navigators use the traditional star compass to navigate their sailing canoes to traverse the Pacific. Visit hokulea.org for more information about the ship’s current voyage.
Participants are advised to bring a sweater, beach chair or mat.
The event is being sponsored by Kamehameha Schools Maui.
