National speaker will address conference

The County of Maui Volunteer Center and the Network of Volunteer Leaders are sponsoring the 2013 Annual Volunteer Conference: “The Changing Landscape of Volunteer Leaders – Advocates, Innovators and Motivators” from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 18 at the King Kamehameha Golf Club.

The keynote speaker and special presenter is Susan J. Ellis, nationally recognized for her expertise in volunteer management and president of Energize Inc., a training, consulting and publishing firm that specializes in volunteerism.

The conference will provide attendees the opportunity to meet with Ellis and network with other volunteer leaders, managers, board members, and others who play a significant role in leading and managing volunteers.

A pre-conference volunteer service day will be hosted by the Maui Nui Botanical Gardens from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 17. Attendees will learn about Maui Nui’s native Hawaiian plants as they help to beautify the garden and nursery.
