Wailea is setting for Day of Hope

Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea will present the 24th annual Day of Hope 10K run / 5K walk at 7 a.m. Saturday along Wailea Alanui Drive. Proceeds from this event will go to Maui’s Pacific Cancer Foundation. Runners and walkers are invited to participate.

Master of ceremonies Howard Dashefsky, an Emmy-award-winning producer and host of Sports People Hawaii, will preside over the morning’s events, which will include a live auction featuring packages at various resorts and hotels around Hawaii and abroad.

A keiki dash on Wailea Beach will follow the run/walk, and Locks of Love will be on hand to lop off ponytails 10 inches or longer to be made into real-hair hairpieces and wigs for children going through cancer treatment.

A traditional Hawaiian canoe ceremony will begin on Wailea Beach following a continental breakfast for all event participants on the oceanfront lawn.

The public is invited to attend the canoe ceremony as the paddlers voyage beyond the reef for a memorial dedicated to loved ones lost to cancer.
