Somos Ohana Nicaragua means “We Are Family – Nicaragua.” The volunteer organization has worked in the municipality of Villanueva, Department of Chinandega, as a nonprofit since 2006 and as community volunteers since 1999, a news release about the event said.
Among the projects completed by the group are several homes for extremely poor families, five schools and two water systems. The group has donated cows and bicycles, funded scholarships and transportation for students and cancer patients, brought in physical and speech therapists, and for the past two years run a two-week day camp for youths with special needs.
