Kihei library offers free events this month
Kihei Public Library is offering free programs for children and adults this month. Programs will be conducted in the children’s section. All children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver:
* 6 p.m. Tuesday – “How to Start a Business in Maui County.” Research Librarian Christine Pawliuk of the Hawaii Small Business Development Center will provide information for adults about options for business structures, insurance, tax considerations, state and city agencies, and availability of financial assistance. Pawliuk will also discuss the qualities that successful entrepreneurs can develop. Pre-registration is required. Call the library to register.
* 3 p.m. Nov. 20 – “Discovering the Classics with Papa Lopaka.” Children ages 6 and older are invited to join Papa Lopaka (Robert DeVinck) for a dramatic reading of the “Classics Illustrated” comic book of Rudyard Kipling’s “The Jungle Book.” There will be a brief discussion and question-and-answer session, and Lopaka will encourage the children to read the original book. This one-hour program will include light snacks provided by the Kay A. Edwards Memorial Fund. Papa Lopaka is a writer, English literature scholar and longtime reader of classic books.
Programs are subject to change. Contact the library as soon as possible if a sign language interpreter or other special accommodation is needed.
