Repaired star will shine over Makawao

The Makawao Community Association will have its annual holiday star-lighting ceremony at sundown Friday during the grand opening of the Makawao History Project at 1152 Makawao Ave.

The holiday star was recently placed in the tallest Norfolk pine tree in town. Arborist James Frazen climbed more than 80 feet in the tree to secure the star with the assistance of Erol Ackdoe on the ground.

Makawao Community Association members Peter Baldwin, Gary Moore and Rose Moore Sword started the annual tradition in 2000.

The star was struck by lightning during a storm this year, frying all the cords so that it had to be taken down for repair. Now fixed, the star will shine over the community this holiday season.
