Soroptimist club offers cash grant for women
Women who are the heads of their households, requiring financial assistance for education and training to improve their employment prospects, are eligible for the Soroptimist Women’s Opportunity Award.
Soroptimist International of Maui will provide a $1,500 cash grant to the award winner, who will be eligible for more grants at regional and final levels. At the regional level, the women can win $3,000 and $5,000 grants; $10,000 is available as one of three finalists.
Since 1972, the Women’s Opportunity Award has helped women offset costs of higher education or training and associated expenses, such as books, child care and transportation.
The deadline for applications is Dec. 15. Applications and eligibility checklist are available from University of Hawaii Maui College, Women Helping Women and www.simaui.org.
