Lahaina Arts Association awards partial scholarships to students

The Lahaina Arts Association recently awarded partial scholarships to local students pursuing art in college as a part of its 36th annual Art Exhibit and Partial Scholarship Contest.

Graduating high school seniors from Maui County submitted their art for exhibition and consideration in the scholarship competition. A special artist’s reception was held in the Old Jail Gallery to award scholarships and honor contest participants.

Tuition assistance scholarships were awarded to the following:

* Gianna Mitchell Best In Show $1,000 Award – Ryan Hanscam, “In the Smoke”

* Haruto “Harry” Furuta First Place Mixed Media $500 Award – Nalu Laurel, “Lurk”

* Martin Rockwell First Place Painting $500 Award – Hanscam, “Giggly Moments”

* Robert Sumner Norton First Place Photography $500 Award – Stephanie Lawless, “Psychedelic Love Affair”

* Gianna Mitchell First Place 3D $500 Award – Hanscam, “Untitled”

* LAA First Place Drawing $500 Award – Hanscam, “In the Smoke”
