Lions to collect eyeglasses and hearing aids

Maui Lions clubs will be collecting eyeglasses and hearing aids Saturday as part of the worldwide “Lions In Sight” initiative.

The collections will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wal-Mart and at LensCrafters at the Queen Ka’ahumanu Center.

The glasses will be distributed to those in need within developing countries where eye care is often unaffordable and inaccessible, according to a news release.

Recently, 5,000 pairs of eyeglasses were distributed to citizens of war-torn Afghanistan by Hawaii Lions Club members. The glasses will be cleaned, categorized by prescription and prepared for distribution.

Hearing aids will be cleaned and tested for local distribution.
