Maui teens, both male and female, crowned at scholarship pageants

Fourteen Maui “Top Elite Scholars” were crowned Jan. 18 during pageants in the Maui Beach Hotel Elleiar Ballroom.

Six teens competed in the 2014 Miss Aloha Maui’s Outstanding Teen Scholarship Competition, a preliminary to the 2014 Miss Hawaii’s and Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Program.

Fourteen-year-old Alexandria Tyau was the first to be crowned as the new Miss Aloha Maui’s O.T. 2014.

‘Iolani Chun, executive director of the pageant, surprised the other five contestants with titles as well. All six young women will compete in the state competition, along with the reigning Miss Maui’s O.T. 2014, Sascia Campos-Ewaliko, on April 26 at the Hawaii Convention Center on Oahu for the title of Miss Hawaii’s O.T. 2014.

The additional contestants are Miss Mauna Kahalawai’s O.T. 2014 – Breeann Joaquin, Miss Valley Isle’s O.T. 2014 – Jessica Griffiths, Miss Na Hawai’iki’s O.T. 2014 – Michaela Owen, Miss Haleakala’s O.T. 2014 – Joahnnalee Ucol, and Miss Island Lokelani’s O.T. 2014 – Jazmyn Hogan.

The Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Scholarship Pageant will be held in August in Orlando, Fla.

In addition to the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Scholarship Pageant, 12 young women competed in the 2014 Miss Maui, Miss Valley Isle and Miss Na Hawai’iki Scholarship Competition. Four young men took part in the 2014 Mister Maui Scholarship Competition.

The Miss Maui is a preliminary to the 2014 Miss Hawai’i and Miss America Scholarship Program.

Here are the results: 2014 Miss Maui – Sofia Godinez-Miller, Miss Valley Isle 2014 – Celina Hayashi, and Miss Na Hawai’iki 2014 – Lei U’i Kaholokula. First runner-up Kiani McBean, second runner-up Kandrie Martinez-Herring, third runner-up Natasha Poepoe, and fourth runner-up Maata Halaliku.

The three top scholars will compete in the 2014 Miss Hawai’i Scholarship Pageant on June 7 at the Hawaii Convention Center. Miss Hawai’i 2014 will compete in the 2015 Miss America Scholarship Pageant in September at Atlantic City, N.J.

Four young men competed for the Mister Maui Hawai’i 2014 crown.

All four men were crowned that evening and will represent Maui in the 2014 Mister Hawai’i Scholarship Competition in October on Oahu.

The results are as follows: Mister Maui Hawai’i – Kealii Guzman, Mister Hawai’iki 2014 – Sione Halaliku, Mister Aloha Maui 2014 – Bryan Cabebe-Ramirez, and Mister Valley Isle 2014 – Nicholas Vasquez-Stewart.

The top finishers received monetary college scholarships awards in varying amounts.
