Savers donates books to reading program
Shawn Leong, Savers Kahului community center donation ambassador, presented Read Aloud America with 375 children’s picture books at a recent holiday story time at Savers in Kahului. Joanne and Larry Laird, program directors for Read Aloud America, have been conducting a monthly story time for keiki at Savers the past six months. Savers became a sponsor for RAA after Leong attended an RAA program as a parent with his son at Makawao School. Leong was impressed with the program and offered to forge a partnership between Savers and the RAA family literacy program.
Since the fall, Savers provides RAA with discount coupons for every RAA family, Savers gift packs for children’s prizes, and gift certificates for adult prizes at RAA programs. In addition, Savers has given more than 700 children’s picture books for the RAA book swap tables.
According to the Lairds: “Savers is a very special sponsor for Read Aloud America. They provide us with incentives for our programs, and they put books into the hands of our children. We have enjoyed offering monthly story times in the store and thank Savers Kahului for their generous support of the RAA programs.”
