Annual gala will help fund school programs

St. Anthony Junior-Senior High School will hold its gala fundraiser Nov. 15 at the King Kamehameha Golf Course clubhouse, an annual event that helps fund a variety of programs including a new Teachers’ Wishes program

Last year, the gala drew more than 300 supporters and raised more than $100,000.

From that funding, St. Anthony math teacher Ann Sugrue was able to get an Apple iPad that she uses to teach trigonometry, calculus and sign language to students in grades 7 through 12.

“The iPad makes teaching so much easier, efficient and less time-consuming,” Sugrue said, explaining that she’s able to use 3-D graphics and mathematic applications in one-on-one lessons with students on the iPad.

St. Anthony Head of School Betsey Gunderson said she’s grateful for the financial support the gala provides every year to her staff and students.

The school is accepting applications from prospective students for the 2014-15 school year.
