Rotary club teaches ethics lessons to Kihei 3rd-graders

For the fourth consecutive year, 150 copies of the “Andy and Elmer Apple Dumpling Adventure” coloring and activity book by Andrew J. Shoup were purchased by the Rotary Club of Kihei Sunrise and distributed to 3rd-graders at Kihei Elementary School.

This instructional material for an ethics and character-development activity was taught by the Rotary Club members during two lessons this spring.

The objective of the activities was to introduce and make the students aware of the meaning of the Rotary Four-Way Test and how they can use it in their lives to make positive decisions.

The second lesson featured the “honesty pie” activity. The focus of this lesson was the extension of Andy’s message and how he learned about truth, honesty and responsibility.

“Our club’s mission statement includes providing activities and support ‘Keiki of Kihei’ as one of our leading priorities,” said Patty Hemmen, youth services chairwoman for the Rotary Club of Kihei Sunrise.
