New Maui dance company competes on Oahu

Aloha Pacific Dance Company competed in the Spotlight Cup Dance Competition on Oahu on May 31. The event was held at Kaimuki High School. Children from the Maui company who competed were Shaylee Yamashita, Larissa Yee, Tatiana Ringsby, Chloe Harris, Natalie Harris, Tayte Kamoku and Gabe Frampton.

Ringsby won the photogenic competition.

Yamashita and Kamoku received diamond awards for their solo dances and were invited to compete in the the nationals competition in Anaheim, Calif., in July.

Kamoku was also the winner of the dance-down competition against 80 other dancers and was given a scholarship to attend a summer dance intensive in New York or California.

Aloha Pacific Dance Company is a new dance company directed by Leeanne Lawrence. She is having her first showcase at 6:30 p.m. today at Iao Theater in Wailuku.

Tickets will be available at the door while seats are available. Ticket prices are $12, $15 and $18.
