Photo workshop on slopes of Haleakala

Hui No’eau Visual Arts Center in collaboration with the D.T. Fleming Arboretum will offer a digital single-lens reflex photography class from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday. Professional photographer and instructor Aubrey Hord will help students become familiar with manual camera settings as the class captures images of Upcountry views and rare native plants growing within the Pu’u Mahoe cinder cone. Students with basic knowledge of their DSLR camera’s navigation will gain a mentored hands-on photo experience.

Tuition is $55 for Hui members or $69 for non-Hui members. Class cost includes a picnic lunch and the arboretum’s donation of a surprise dessert.

Hord was recently named one of Maui’s finest photographers by Absolute Maui. Visit to learn more about her photography.

Pre-registration and a DSLR camera/lenses are required. Participants will meet at Ulupalakua Ranch Store and caravan to the arboretum at 8 a.m. Call Hui No’eau at 572-6560 or visit for more information and to register.
