Habitat for Humanity Maui plans Build-A-Thon

Habitat for Humanity Maui will present its eighth annual Build-A-Thon between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday to promote awareness of and help eliminate substandard housing and homelessness in Hawaii, according to an announcement.

More than 100 volunteers will work over a two-day period to help build affordable housing for low-income Maui residents.

Participants in this year’s Build-A-Thon will help with construction on a three-story, 16-unit condominium project on Kahawai Street in Happy Valley.

Build-A-Thon volunteers will work directly alongside Habitat’s partner families. Some of these partner families will be potential homeowners in the completed project; other families have previously benefited from other build events and choose to donate their time to help others in the Habitat ohana.

Habitat for Humanity Maui is looking for teams or individuals to be a part of the Build-A-Thon. Each worker will receive a “goody” bag, including discount coupons for the Habitat ReStore. Each volunteer will get a Habitat T-shirt, lunch, and a chance to win prizes.

Each volunteer is also asked to raise at least $100 to participate.

“The Build-A-Thon is usually a special day of work,” said Community Relations Director Max Tornai. “If you can’t join us for this year’s Build-A-Thon, we can use your help any day of the week.”
