Hula and feather flower making featured Saturday in Kipahulu
Judy Kinser will teach hula and Patricia Gomez will demonstrate feather flower making in the Kipahulu District of Haleakala National Park between 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday.
The activities are part of Hana No’eau, the park’s new cultural demonstration series which features local residents. Hana No’eau means “to demonstrate and honor the traditions of the Hawaiian people.”
The series, which started June 14, has featured other local cultural practitioners including Bolly Helekahi (coconut leaf weaving) and Pi’ilani Lua (ti leaf lei and Hawaiian games).
The series is funded by the Hawai’i Pacific Parks Association, a nonprofit partner of the park.
The cultural demonstrations occur in the Kipahulu District between 1 and 3 p.m. on the second and fourth Saturdays of July and August.
