Maui woman is Miss Hawaii Filipina

The new Miss Hawaii Filipina 2014, Hulali Mai Kalani Asuncion Brown of Maui, was crowned July 26 at Pacific Beach Hotel on Oahu.

The 19-year-old resident of Wailuku is the daughter of Keola Brown and Kimi Anne Asuncion.

Asuncion Brown won in the swimsuit and interview phases of the competition.

At the Miss Hawaii Filipina Scholarship pageant, she walked away with a $10,000 scholarship to Argosy University and round-trip airfare to the Philippines from the United Filipino Council of Hawaii.

Asuncion Brown is a graduate of Kamehameha Schools Maui, where she was active in student government all four years of high school as class president.

During her high school years, she participated as a volunteer with the Children’s Miracle Network, received the title of Miss Hula O Na Keiki 2007 and was crowned Miss Hawaii Outstanding Teen 2012.

Asuncion Brown wants to obtain a degree in hospitality and tourism. She hopes to become a flight attendant and pursue modeling.
