Navy seaman from Wailuku part of volunteer effort

Navy Seaman Kiana Silado, a native of Wailuku and 2011 Baldwin High School graduate, and 11 other sailors assigned to the amphibious dock landing ship USS Fort McHenry, spent three days in Baltimore, giving back to the local community during a visit to the ship’s namesake, July 31 to Aug. 2, according to a news release.

The sailors volunteered their last weekend in Norfolk, Va., by visiting with children at a local hospital, presenting colors at Orioles Park at Camden Yards and helping restock a local Habitat for Humanity ReStore.

USS Fort McHenry is currently underway in preparation for an upcoming deployment as part of the USS Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group.
