NBA superstar presents MHS with Best Buddies award

NBA superstar Kyrie Irving and actress Lauren Potter from TV’s hit series “Glee” presented Best Buddies chapter President Shantel Longboy with an award recognizing Maui High School for heading one of the nation’s Outstanding Chapters for the 2013-14 academic year and for being the top high school chapter in Hawaii.

The award was presented to Longboy at Indiana University in July.

Best Buddies International founder Anthony Kennedy Shriver told Longboy, “We are grateful for the exceptional contributions you have made to further the Best Buddies movement in your school and community. Your commitment and dedication to the mission is helping change the world one friendship at a time.”

Irving was a member of Best Buddies while he was student at Duke University, before he became an NBA star.

Maui High School teacher Christine Wada was also present at this event.
