Ka Lima O Maui hands out awards
Ka Lima O Maui held its annual meeting in the Maui Economic Opportunity classrooms on Nov. 21 to mark 59 years of its mission of “Enhancing Lives through Self-Reliance.”
Ka Lima helps adults with disabilities by providing them with job placement and training and life skills training.
The annual meeting was a chance for board members, staff, clients and employers to gather together to celebrate the many achievements accomplished throughout the year.
One hundred and forty people showed up for the event featuring guest speaker Keith Regan, managing director of the County of Maui, and Debbie Wanderscheid, a parent.
“I just love Ka Lima, they have helped my son Matt so much that he wants to work with them for the rest of his life, he may just be here when they reach their 100th anniversary,” said Wanderscheid.
Eight awards were given at the annual meeting to show recognition for those who contributed to Ka Lima O Maui and its mission. The categories and winners were: Ambassador of the Year – Diane Haynes Woodburn; Grounds Employee of the Year – Matt Wanderscheid; Custodial Employee of the Year – Maria Cavan; Waiver Participant of the Year – Travis Urayanza; Job Placement of the Year – David Rodriguez; Employer of the Year – The Dunes at Maui Lani Golf Course; Contractor of the Year – Lokahi Pacific; and Staff of the Year – Keri Pasion Salas.
