Grants

Exterior of the Alexander & Baldwin Sugar Museum

Foundations and entities who contributed recently to Maui County community nonprofits and others are as follows:

The Alexander & Baldwin Sugar Museum has been awarded a $15,000 FLEX Grant from the Robert E. Black fund of the Hawaii Community Foundation. The Flex Grant provides operating support, and may be used for a variety of purposes including administrative costs and program expenses. Museum Director Roslyn Lightfoot said, “We are very appreciative of this award, and will use the funds for administrative and program expenses related to our core programs. . . . Through the foundation’s generous support, we are able to expand a valuable service to the community.” This year marks 30 years that the museum has been operating and the 26th year of providing an educational program that allows students to connect with Maui’s sugar plantation past.

Hui No Ke Ola Pono received a $125,205 grant from the Hawaii Dental Service Foundation to fund two projects.

The first project will establish a school-based sealant program at select Maui elementary schools.

This program will provide hands-on oral health educational sessions and, with parental/guardian consent, oral health screenings and sealant placement for 2nd-graders. Assistance will be provided to establish a personal dentist for those in need of one.

The second project involves expanding the Hana clinic. The HDS Foundation grant will be used to purchase a new panoramic X-ray system and mobile equipment.
