HILT launches free, guided hike series

Hawaiian Islands Land Trust has launched its 2017 “Talk Story on the Land” environmental education series of free, guided hikes across the islands. The series aims to connect residents and visitors with the ‘aina (land).

“One of the best things about Hawaii is our storied places and our beautiful natural and cultural resources. We want to share these stories and these places that have been preserved for future generations,” said Kawika Burgess, CEO of HILT.

The series offers enriching experiences at HILT’s public preserves, such as the Waihe’e Coastal Dunes and Wetland Refuge and Nu’u Refuge on Maui.

Each year, HILT offers at least 24 free, guided hikes. HILT also conducts special “members-only” hikes for land trust members, which anyone can become by visiting hilt.org.

HILT strives to conserve lands throughout Hawaii with ecological, agricultural, cultural and historical values to keep these special places intact.

To join HILT on a hike and learn about its mission, conservation work and how to get involved in the community, call (808) 244-5263 or visit hilt.org.
