Hana family’s bike trip to raise funds for St. Jude’s

A Hana family set off on a bicycle ride across the U.S. this month to raise money for the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. The Zeimer family is made up of parents Jessica and Jerry and sons Aden, 12, and Ashby, 10.

The inspiration for the trip came about after the family took on a smaller journey to hike 140 miles of the Oregon Pacific Crest Trail last year. The Zeimers wanted to do something “big” and raise funds for a charity that is important to them.

“Thanks to my desire to not always take the ‘easy’ or ‘typical’ route in life, I have had some super-sweet experiences. I hope that my children are able to experience that through this trip, and that they won’t be afraid to try big things in life,” said Jessica Ziemer.

The trip began this month on the coast of Oregon, and the Zeimers will travel a northern route across the U.S., wrapping up in Maine in August. They anticipate many educational opportunities during the trip in the areas of history, ecology, math, charting, budgeting and cooking.

St. Jude’s mission is to find cures for children battling cancer and other life-threatening diseases. The organization never charges a fee for its services and freely shares the discoveries it makes with other researchers.
