Police association awards four $1,000 scholarships
Recent high school graduates Sadie Ansai, Rachel Nagamine, Kamryn Perry and Lacey Santos have been awarded $1,000 college scholarships by the Maui Police Relief Association.
The four were selected based on academic achievement, including grades and community involvement, said police Capt. Ricky Uedoi, president of the association.
Ansai, who graduated from Baldwin High School, has a 3.75 grade-point average. She plans to study criminal justice at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas. She is the daughter of police Sgt. Nathan Pellazar and his wife, Tracy, a police 911 dispatcher.
Nagamine, who graduated from Maui High School, has a 4.0 gpa and plans to attend the University of Oregon. She is the daughter of Eric and Jennifer Nagamine and the granddaughter of Harold Nagamine Jr., a retired police evidence technician.
Perry, who graduated from Maui Preparatory Academy, has a 4.37 gpa and plans to attend Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash. Her father, Scott Perry, is a retired police lieutenant.
Santos, who graduated from Seabury Hall, has a 3.34 gpa and will attend the University of San Francisco. She is the daughter of Stacey Keomaka, a clerk in the Wailuku Patrol Division.
“They are very deserving,” Uedoi said during the scholarship presentation May 15 at the Wailuku Police Station.
The Maui Police Relief Organization was started to provide financial assistance to family members of police officers.
