Henry Kapono to headline Hale Makua fundraiser

Henry Kapono will headline Hale Makua Health Services’ annual fundraiser, “Kokua for Kupuna,” on Sept. 9 at the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa in Kaanapali, with guests treated to an oceanfront evening under the stars.

Registration will open at 4:30 p.m. with the formal program beginning at 6. Proceeds from the fundraiser help frail elders and disabled individuals who cannot afford health care services.

The event will also include an opening performance by Halemanu, a Hawaiian buffet dinner, two hosted drinks and a silent auction with over 100 items from local retailers and restaurants.

Tickets are $150 for adults, $40 for keiki 5 to 12 years old, and $1,500 for a reserved table of 10 with premium seating. Tickets and tables can be purchased by calling 871-9271 or online at www.halemakua.org.

This year’s theme, “Continuing the Journey,” will pay tribute to the life and legacy of longtime Hale Makua Health Services supporter Sue Cooley, who died earlier this year. Over her lifetime, she provided over $4.6 million in funds, which enabled major improvements to be made to the kitchen at Hale Makua Kahului, making it possible to efficiently prepare over 1,000 meals daily.

Her donations also provided the funding needed for the organization to currently undergo a master planning process for the Hale Makua Kahului and Wailuku locations.
