Ninth annual Paddle for Life Oct. 7 and 8

Approximately 400 paddlers and supporters will be making a 36-mile round-trip open ocean journey across the ‘Au’au Channel Oct. 7 and 8 from Lahaina to Lanai to benefit Pacific Cancer Foundation.

Teams from Maui, Lanai, Big Island, Oahu and Kauai will represent the Hawaiian islands for this year’s event. There are also paddlers from both the West and East coasts. Individual paddlers will be flying in from Germany and Dubai to participate in this year’s event, as well as a team of paddlers from Calgary, Alberta.

“Our goal this year is to raise $150,000,” said Nancy La Joy, executive director at the Pacific Cancer Foundation.

“Our paddlers are working overtime to reach their goal. We are so thankful for the generous contributions of all our many sponsors. The people of Maui and Lanai are joining together to make this a special event for our cancer patients, survivors and supporters. We couldn’t have done it without them.”

Paddler and supporter Barbara Ruberto from Team Berney said, “Paddle for life, paddle for love. Donate because you care.”
