Clubs participate in grant program

Members of the Haleakala Lions Club, along with Lions from the Airport, Kahului and Maui Lions clubs, recently participated in the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation grant by completing 100 hours of community service at the Nisei Veterans Memorial Center.

The Lions constructed a walkway leading to a Hawaiian burial site, landscaped and placed a marker at the site, and held a blessing conducted by the Rev. Laki Ka’ahumanu.

After the blessing, Project Chairman Mark Mizuno presented a check of $10,000 to William Kinaka, president of the Maui Adult Day Care. The presentation was made possible by the club’s participation in the foundation’s grant program. Mizuno is past district governor of the Haleakala Lions Club. He coordinated the project and blessing.

The Haleakala Lions Club invites individuals interested in community service to contact Mizuno at 242-7638. The club meets at 6 p.m. at the Kahului Community Center on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month.
